Date: Thu, 27 Mar 1997 00:14:59 +0530 From: Marc To: guitar@olga.net Subject: TAB: "Forgiveness" by Collective Soul "Forgiveness" by Collective Soul as heard on the album "DISCIPLINED BREAKDOWN" Words written by Ed Roland and music by Collective Soul Transcribed by: Phil Muri on March 30th 1997 e-mail: muri@po-box.mcgill.ca This is the first song I`ve tabbed for OLGA so please, bear with me. Any comments, questions or corrections would greatly be appreciated. So E-Mail me if you want to! *****the tone of the instrument which comes in after the intro is so weird-and cool! I can`t tell if it`s a guitar or an organ.(it said in the liner notes that a guy played organ for one song) In any case I arranged it for guitar.******* */*/*/* NOTE */*/*/* When **** is next to a chord it means that there are 4 muted 16th note slashes using the G-chord Starting on the 4th beat. Example: 1 2 3 4 e a u / / / / INTRO Em B C G Guitar 2 (or organ) fades-in on last beat of intro riff 1 E---------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------- G-9---11-12-8---11-8-9----------------------------------9-- D--------------------------10-12-----9-10------------------ A---------------------------------10----------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------- Verse Em B C G In my silence I would love to forget Em B C G But restitution hasn`t come quite yet D And with one accord I keep moving forth Em C5 I stretch my heart to heal some more Chorus G Em C5 It used to be all I wanted to learn G **** Was wisdom trust and truth G Em C5 But now all I really want to learn G Is forgiveness for you then guitar 2( or organ) comes in again with almost the same thing as riff 1 riff 2 ( pitiful attempt at repeat sign ) play what`s in 1st box once, repeat it and then play the second box E--------------------------------------------------l------- B----------------------------------------------.---l------- G-----9---11-12-8-----11-8-9--------------12-------l---9--- D------------------------------10-12-----------.---l------- A-----------------------------------------10-------l------- E--------------------------------------------------l------- *(Not sure about octave before repeat)* Verse Em B C G As my seasons change I`ve now grown to know Em B C G When one`s heart creates, one`s soul doesn`t owe D So I wash away stains of yesterday Em C5 Then tempt my heart with love`s display (Play Chorus again) Guitar interlude (couldn`t quite call this a solo!) It sounds approximately right to me (again, there`s that famous repeat sign) E---------------------------------------------------------------------l B---13-13----12-12----10-10-8-8-8-8----13-13----12-12----10-10------.-l G---12-12----12-12----12-12-9-9-9-9----12-12----12-12----12-12---12---l D----------------------------------------------------------------12-.-l A---------------------------------------------------------------------l E---------------------------------------------------------------------l *listen for the muted slashes between each chord* DRUM BEAT (4 Bars) ...I think so? Finger-pick all this part (Oh,come on! You must get the idea by now!) E------7--------------------7-------------------7---------------3------l B------8--------------------8-------------------8---------------3--.---l G---------------------------------------------------------------4------l D---------------------------------------------------------------5--.---l A--------------------------------------3------------------------5------l E---3----------------3------------------------------------------3------l *play last chord very gently* Chorus w/acoustic guitar (no break with muting) Rest of band kicks-in still with chorus (break with muting) Play chorus chords (no vocals or break w/ muting) 3 times Well, I did as good as I could... This truly is a great song. But I was disappointed that, like the other songs on "Disciplined Breakdown", there are no real solos. Ross Childress is an extremely talented guitarist, Why don`t they let him solo? It would make the great tunes even better. P.S - Comments, Questions, improvements; welcome and appreciated!
